Have you ever driven around Meadows Place and wondered how our streets got their names?
We did and we thought we’d find out about a few. We only had the chance to ask about a handful and for those answers, we reached out to Billy Burge, the original developer of Meadows Place.
Billy was excited to share some of the history behind a few of our street names.
We will start with Dorrance Ln., possibly our most well-known and traveled street. There is a reason it carries the name it does.
Originally, Meadows Place was about 1,200 acres of farmland, much of it planted in okra before Billy Burge and his company, the Ayrshire Corporation, purchased it for development. The
family they purchased it from? The Dorrance family.
So, the next time you’re stopped on Dorrance Ln., remember the Dorrance family and what it must have been like when the street you’re on was simply a row in a field of okra.
Next week, we will uncover the history of another street name and this one may be a street you didn’t know was in Meadows Place.
