Over the past four weeks we have shared the history behind a handful of street names in Meadows Place. We had the chance to pick the brain of Billy Burge, the original developer of Meadows Place, about a few of our street names and their meanings.

In case you need a refresher, here is what we’ve shared.
• Dorrance Ln. – Named after the family that originally owned the land where Meadows Place now sits
• Pamela Sue Ct. – Named after Billy’s dear late wife
• Hoggard Dr. – Named after Billy’s first wife’s maiden name.
• Scarcella Ln. – Named after former Mayor of Stafford, Leonard Scarcella

This week, we’re wrapping up the series with one last story, the history behind Kenzie Ct. Like Pamela Sue Ct., Kenzie Ct. is one of our smaller streets and is tucked away off Monticeto Ln. Kenzie Ct. gets its name from David Hannah III’s wife, Kenzie. David’s father was one of the original partners when the Ayrshire Corporation, the development company that built Meadows Place, was founded in 1946.

Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed this small history lesson. Things as simple as street names continue to connect us to our city’s roots. I also think we’ve learned that if you want to come up with names for streets and honor those close to you, you may have to develop a city of your own.

A very special thanks to Billy Burge for sharing his memories with us. He reminds us that Meadows Place has always held a special place for him.
