The very first planting at the Meadows Place Community Garden was done by the three Fifth Grade classes of Meadows Elementary. Opting to let the children be the first to plant in the new community garden was the brainchild of Shelley Brough, Johana Garcia, Bob Dybala and Jack Shaw, who along with Cindy Poe and Tom Altman, were there to help the children get started as they filled the garden with Kale, Carrots, Bok Choy and Marigolds. The beds were sectioned off and the students will be responsible for the weeding and maintenance of their section. Located along the walking path near the baseball fields, the gardens are sure to be a favorite place for the families who participate and passersby. A Community Garden Inauguration and Official Public Grand Opening will be held the morning of Saturday, April 18th as part of the Earth Week celebration. There will be lots of fun, and planting opportunities for everyone.
