“There are some things that, no matter how much you prepare for them, still come as a surprise.
Many of you may remember that back in 2024 we celebrated Chief Stewart’s 30 years of service to our city. Today, we celebrate his next milestone, retirement. While this announcement comes with a little sadness, we are also excited for Chief Stewart and whatever this next chapter holds.
It is no secret that filling Chief Stewart’s shoes will be a difficult task, but I have every confidence that we will find the right police chief for our city, someone who will continue to uphold the reputation our Police Department has earned for community involvement, professionalism, and public safety. Hiring a police chief is one of the most important decisions we make, and it’s a thorough process that will take time.
Chief Stewart’s 30+ years of service and commitment have helped build not only that reputation, but also a strong foundation that will continue long after his retirement.
At our next City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall (1 Troyan Drive), we will appoint an Interim Chief to lead the department while we begin the search for our next police chief. We also look forward to celebrating Chief Stewart’s remarkable career and accomplishments later this month.
