The City of Meadows Place, and Meadows Place Economic Development Corporation, are supporting the three man rowing team of Mike Matson, David Alviar & Brian Krauskopf. They have rowed their 22 ft. rowboat over 2000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean already. Mike Matson was a firefighter who served the Meadows Place Fire station and worked with Anne Sullivan when she was stationed at Meadows Place. The boat is named Anne after the firefighter who died in the line of duty. .
The team left La Gomera off the coast of Morocco on Dec. 16th, 2016, bound for English Harbour, Antigua in the West Indies. They have weathered high winds, big waves, rain and sun but are still rowing hard. They are still on their own on the ocean and at the mercy of the wind, waves, storms another 400 miles. The City of Meadows Place Facebook page has regular postings as the race progresses. Please follow along and support – The American Oarsmen
