On Tuesday, April 28th, the City Council and Economic Development Corporation will meet to hear public comments regarding a proposed Community Development Program (MPCDP or Program), which will allow the City to purchase homes that are in disrepair, make repairs to the homes, and resell homes to ensure that such homes do not become blight in the City.  This Program is authorized pursuant to Chapter 373 of the Texas Local Government Code entitled “Community Development in Municipalities”.

The MPCDP will purchase eligible distressed properties from delinquent tax sales, foreclosed properties, or at the request of eligible applicants.  The Program rehabilitates single-family homes by making required repairs and resells the homes.  The goals of the MPCDP are to protect the health and safety of residents, to improve the quality of life, and to improve overall neighborhood appearance and the quality of housing stock in the City.

This is all thanks to Mayor Charles Jessup who has been the driving force in introducing this exciting concept to the City Council and the Economic Development Corporation.

The 1st Public Hearing is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. with the 2nd Public Hearing scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Residents welcome to attend and give their input.
