We had so many comments and questions about the alley closure we thought it deserves another post all its own.

The owners are repairing their security wall damaged by Beryl and prefer no cars passing through during the work. You may have seen the damage and temporary repairs after the storm.

We donโ€™t know yet, only that theyโ€™re focused on repairing the wall.

The City would have to purchase it.

We do not know the scope of their work, but they know permits are required and are in contact with the City.

No, it’s their private property, and no variance is required.

No, the owner has kept the City informed and is working cooperatively. They notified us about the alley closure so we could inform residents and follow proper procedures.

That depends on the owner, as itโ€™s their decision to use it as they wish. This alley is private property and not a street.

A permit application has been submitted for restaurant use. This is one step in many before a business opens. We do not know if/when they will open or the type of food that may be offered there.

The old Vroom/Texas Direct/Mall property is split between two owners, making permitting, leasing, and repairs more complex. The City works closely with both owners to ensure code compliance and maintains a strong, communicative relationship with them.
