For over 25 years, the Meadows Place Parks & Recreation Department has provided the citizens many “Christmas Memories”! McGrath Park becomes a winter wonderland each December for our annual city-wide holiday celebration.
The highlight of the evening is always the arrival of Santa and the surprise of how he comes to visit. With Santa’s reindeer resting up for their big trip, Santa chooses a different arrival vehicle each year: helicopter, fire truck, hay ride, monster truck, camel! Once he arrives, children are treated to visits with Santa, pictures by mom & dad and it wouldn’t be Christmas without presents.
Music for the festivities is provided by Meadows Elementary Choir with traditional Christmas Carols and The Emotions, entertaining everyone with a variety of live music.
What to do? Memories Mountain is our large snow hill for sledding for all ages. Munchkin Mountain is reserved for sledders 5 years old and younger. Additional activities include hayride to view Christmas lights, a petting zoo, inflatable slide and the fire pit area!
Thanks to our sponsors for helping us provide a top-notch celebration. Snow hills were graciously sponsored by HDR Engineering Inc. For the 25th Anniversary of Christmas Memories in 2014, Texas Direct Auto sponsored an Ice Carving Show by DLG Ice Factory. And Brookside Equipment Sales provides tractors, trailers and utility vehicles for the hayride and general use throughout this event.
And thanks to all the community groups, Girl Scout Troop 19073, Cub Scout Pack 301, Meadows Marlins Swim Team, and Meadows Place P.O.N.Y. Baseball for offering up some most delicious treats and concessions!
During Christmas Memories, we remember those who are not as fortunate. There is no cost for this event, but we ask for donations to Fort Bend Toys for Tots and the Sugar Grove Christian Church Hands of Christ Food Pantry.
Thanks to the Parks & Recreation, the Public Works, the Code Enforcement and the Meadows Place Police Departments for their work in putting this great City event together. And thanks to the Lifeguards who came out of seasonal retirement to help keep the fun safe! If you have any suggestions on how to make next year’s celebration even better, please call Parks & Recreation at 281.983.2935 or e-mail parks3@cityofmeadowsplace.org.
